Renamed “Nepal Insurance & Transport Company Limited” in 1959 and finally adopting its current name in 1991, this company holds the distinction of being Nepal’s first insurance provider. Incorporated in 1994 under the Company Act 2021 (now the Company Act 2063), it received its general insurance license in 1996. The company’s registered head office is situated in Kamaladi, Kathmandu.

Promoted by Nepal Bank Limited, the first commercial bank of Nepal owned by the government, Nepal Insurance benefits from strong backing by Nepal Bank and Asian Life Insurance, among other promoters. This robust support is reflected in its shareholding structure, with 51% held by the promoters and 49% by the general public. Its shares, listed on the Nepal Stock Exchange, are known for their high tradability and value.
